Asbestos Awareness Level 2
Legally required training for anyone who might encounter or disturb asbestos-containing materials at work.
Asbestos remains present in many buildings constructed before 2000, and disturbing it without the right awareness can cause serious, irreversible harm. This course covers identification, risk, and safe working practice around asbestos-containing materials, meeting the training duty under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 for anyone whose work could bring them into contact with it.
WHO IT'S FORTradespeople and maintenance staff whose work could disturb asbestos-containing materials — including electricians, plumbers, joiners, and general maintenance operatives — as required under CAR 2012.
Understand why asbestos was so widely used historically and what makes it hazardous once disturbed.
Cover the long-latency diseases linked to asbestos exposure, including asbestosis and mesothelioma.
Learn to recognise common asbestos-containing materials and where they're typically found in pre-2000 buildings.
Understand the legal duty to manage asbestos and what it means for your day-to-day work.
Know the correct stop-work and reporting procedure if asbestos-containing material is accidentally disturbed.
Cover how incidents and identified ACMs should be reported and logged in line with site asbestos registers.
Delegates complete a short multiple-choice knowledge check at the end of the session confirming understanding of identification and emergency procedures. There's no practical component, as delegates are trained never to handle ACMs directly.
